Canada is Ready to Host the World: MP Gallant
June 10, 2010
RENFREW-NIPISSING-PEMBROKE, ONTARIO ― “Canada is ready to host the world,” MP Cheryl Gallant, Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke said. “The federal government has worked hard to ensure that the June Summits will be highly successful and secure events, as we showcase Canada as one of the most beautiful areas to the world. Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke has the added advantage of having the G 8 Summit right on our doorstep. This is a tremendous opportunity to promote local tourism and what our region has to offer in the way of natural beauty.”

“Canada is the envy of the world. The leadership demonstrated by the Conservative team in Ottawa led by Prime Minister Stephen Harper has resulted in Canada leading the world in economic recovery,” stated Cheryl Gallant, MP. “Economic leadership does not happen by chance. It is a result of having the right people in place at the right time. Many European countries are faced with making painful decisions. Here at home, raising taxes would only impoverish Canadians. Canada can be proud that our government rejects job-killing higher taxes. The rest of the world is beating a path to witness the “Canadian miracle” of an economy that works.”

After nearly two years of hard work and planning, Canada is now poised to host a highly successful and secure G-8 Summit this month. The Economic Summit will bring together leaders from Canada, the European Union, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States. The event will give Canada the opportunity to show leadership on critical global issues.

“After months of planning and preparation, I am confident that Canada is ready to host world leaders for what promises to be a safe and highly productive G-8 Summit,” said MP Cheryl Gallant. “The Government of Canada realizes security is always a concern during these events and we are confident that our ongoing preparatory efforts will pay off. Many Canadians were shocked by the firebombing in Ottawa last month in an apparent attempt to intimidate our democratic partners in the world. Extremists need to know that their behavior will not be tolerated by the Canadian people. We will be ready for whatever criticism the opposition and their more radical coalition partners have about this peaceful gathering of world leaders hosted by Canada.”

Canada, which assumes the presidency of the G-8 in 2010, will welcome the leaders of France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America, as well as the leader of the European Union, to rural Ontario on June 25 and 26 for the summit.

Following the G-8 Summit, the delegates will travel to Toronto to participate in the G-20 Summit on June 26 and 27.
