Federal Government Delivers Right message to Canadians Speech from the Throne right message at the right time: MP Gallant
March 03, 2010
Ottawa, Ontario… “Jobs and growth remain the top priority for our government,” stated Cheryl Gallant MP, Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke. The agenda our Government laid before Parliament just over one year ago, Canada’s Economic Action Plan, is working. The task before us today is to continue to provide the strong economic leadership Canadians have come to expect from a Conservative government led by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.” The Speech from the Throne is all about everyday working people and their families. Low taxes are already helping Canada attract the investment needed to turn ideas into products and services. Unlike the official opposition with their calls for tax increases, the Government of Canada will keep tax rates competitive and low, while taking aggressive steps to close unfair tax loopholes that allow a few businesses and individuals to take advantage of hard-working Canadians who pay their fair share. “There is something in this speech for farmers, forestry workers, AECL energy workers, hunters, seniors, soldiers and veterans, observed Cheryl Gallant, MP. “Many of the suggestions I heard from local constituents that I was able to share with the Prime Minister, were shared with all Canadians in the speech from the throne.” “I am pleased that the commitment has not changed by our government to support legislation to repeal the wasteful and ineffective long-gun registry that targets law-abiding farmers and hunters, not criminals. We honour those who built this country. This includes recognizing the contribution of those who make their living on the land and the realities of rural life in Canada. That means our continued support for a competitive livestock industry and market access for agricultural products, and we will continue to defend supply management of dairy and poultry products. The Opposition still does not get it when it comes to defending the interests of rural, small town Canada,” said Gallant MP. “Just as our Government supports parents as being in the best position to make decisions for their families, the best solutions to the diverse challenges confronting Canada’s communities are often found locally, right here in Renfrew County. Too often, grassroots efforts are hobbled by red tape. Local solutions can be denied access to government assistance because they do not fit the bureaucratic definition of the problem. The efforts of communities falter not on account of a lack of effort or heart, but because of a lack of expertise to turn good ideas into reality. Our Government will take steps to support communities in their efforts to tackle local challenges, like the one we face to keep rail service in the Ottawa valley. This is the message that the people of Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke like to hear,” concluded Cheryl Gallant, MP. |
