M.P. Gallant Reminds Employers of Canada Summer Jobs 2010
This year’s deadline for employers is February 26th, 2010
Pembroke, Ontario… Cheryl Gallant, M.P., Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke, is pleased to remind local employers that the deadline for Canada Summer Jobs 2010, the Federal Government’s program to assist students in finding summer employment, is fast approaching.
Summer Work Experience consists of all Federal initiatives to create summer employment opportunities for secondary and post-secondary students. A major component of Summer Work Experience is Canada Summer Jobs, which offers wage subsidies to employers in the private, (50 employees or less) public and not-for-profit sectors to create job opportunities related to the career interests and the fields of study of students aged 15 to 30 inclusive.
The deadline for employers to submit a Canada Summer Jobs application this year is FEBRUARY 26th, 2010, which is earlier than previous years. Cheryl reminds all employers that as it has been the case in previous years, it is anticipated that there will be more requests for funding than dollars permit. All interested applicants are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible before the deadline.
Eligible ParticipantsTo participate in Canada Summer Jobs, youth must be:
- Between the ages of 15 and 30 (inclusive) at the time of intake/selection;
- Full time secondary or post-secondary students returning to full-time studies;
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents, with some limited exceptions;
- Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations: and
- Not in receipt of unemployment insurance benefits.
Information Sessions“This year the Federal government will be hosting an afternoon information session on February 23rd in Cobden at the Cobden Legion, (1 PM), to assist employers in the application process. In the past, some employers who were unsuccessful expressed frustration with the application process. I encourage any prospective summer student employer who needs assistance to provide a student a summer job, particularly if they have been unsuccessful previously, or would just like more information about the program, to attend the information session,” stated Cheryl Gallant, MP.
